The app we were told to download did not allow us to listen to the audio guide included in the experience, which only worked in the browser. In any case, there is no cell phone reception inside Alcatraz Prison, and free audio guides are provided to everyone in all languages, so we used that. So, to visit the island and the prison, all you need to do is book the ferry trip.

All was great, entrance was smooth and all staff and volunteers were very friendly. The audio guide is great to let you immerse in the prison and its history. The views from the outside are breathtaking.
