Get to know one of Amsterdam’s most important facets on this guided tour through the Jewish Quarter, immersing yourself in World War II history, Jewish culture, and the story of Anne Frank. The tour is available in English, German, Italian, Spanish, or French. Start at the famous Anne Frank Monument by Westerkerk, just around the corner from the Anne Frank House, and follow the moving story of Anne Frank through Amsterdam’s UNESCO-listed city centre and the historic Jewish Quarter. Along the way, you will pass the Anne Frank House and learn about the young girl whose diary has touched millions worldwide. Anne Frank was one of many Jews forced into hiding to avoid deportation. Thousands of people were brought to concentration camps, and only very few returned. Pass by the Anne Frank House and the Portuguese Synagogue during the tour and see important memorial sites such as Stolpersteine (memorial stones), the National Monument at the Dam Square with important sights as the Royal Palace and Madame Tussauds Amsterdam, the Auschwitz Monument, and other locations that preserve the memory of the Third Reich and World War II. Discover how Jews expelled during the Spanish Inquisition shaped Amsterdam into one of Europe’s wealthiest cities and influenced the city’s development, architecture, and culture. See why the Jodenbuurt (Jewish Quarter), next to the Old Harbour and the Redlight District, became the heart of Jewish life, including its famous Jewish Triangle. However, it was not only Jews who lived here. Non-Jews, such as the famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn, also had their homes in the heart of the Jewish Quarter. Join this tour to follow the moving story of Anne Frank, starting at her monument next to the Anne Frank House, while exploring Amsterdam’s UNESCO city centre and the historic Jodenbuurt. If you have booked a private tour, we can also tailor the route and content to your interests. Of course, the main focus of this tour is Anne Frank and Amsterdam’s Jewish Quarter. But if you’d like, we can also incorporate elements from the historical tour or extend the route southward toward the Museum Quarter—home to the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, and the Stedelijk Museum—or toward the Heineken Experience.
Great tour guide, explains everything and was really informative. At the end we asked him about local food and drink and we found a place to buy them.
It was really good. I thought the description of the activity clearly states what is to be expected. I was too late to book tickets to go in, but am very glad I chose to do the tour and learning about the different history of the Jews in Amsterdam. Anna was an excellent guide. ☺️
la guida
die Tour war sehr abwechslungsreich, gut vorbereitet hinterlegt mit viel geschichtlichen Hintergrund. alles bestens danke an den freundlichen, entgegenkommenden gut vorbereitet den Guide Henning
Our tour guide Anna was excellent in her ability to retell the history of Anne Frank and read pertinent passages from her diary at our stops along the tour. I came away with a clear picture of what Anne and the Frank family went through during the war. I highly recommend this tour and our tour guide, Anna!
